From train station to radio station to community hub, Harcourt Station is being brought back to life under the state program to return vacant rail buildings to community use. BLR Construction was engaged to deliver the refurbishment with an expert heritage architect, using our proven approach to protect original fabric while making the building safe, accessible and useful for everyday community activity.
Works focused on careful repair and light-touch upgrades. All floors were relaid to stabilise the structure and remove trip hazards. The former outhouse was renewed and modern toilets were added, with services runs and penetrations planned and monitored to meet heritage requirements. Finishes and fixtures were selected to be durable and sympathetic, and every step was undertaken under heritage oversight and clear hold points.
Once complete, Mount Alexander Shire will be the head tenant and the Harcourt Progress Association will manage the building as a neighbourhood house with meeting, training, office and performance spaces. The result is a respectful renewal that preserves the station’s character, opens the doors to the community, and gives Harcourt a flexible, low-maintenance venue in a landmark building.
